After two years attending New York's Manhattan Writers and a number of writing groups in Provincetown, Matthew travelled to Amherst, MA in 2005 to become certified as a workshop leader in the internationally recognized Amherst Writers and Artists method, with organization founder Pat Scheider.

From 2006-08 Matthew led consistently sold out creative writing and screenwriting workshops with Amsterdam's international literary collective wordsinhere.

In 2009 he founded Amsterdam Writers, dedicated to providing writers with an ongoing Writers' Stretch and Tone workshop, in addition to occasional seminars and masterclasses utilizing the talents of visiting film and television professionals via an informal relationship with the Binger Filmlab.
